What to do About an Outdated DNS?
March 26th, 2009
I noticed something weird regarding my domain name today. When I type www.jacobslusser.com into the browser it went to my old hosting site (which I still own) and showed my old blog. Something like this happened to me once before when I was at work. At the time, I thought it was because our work filters web content and somehow it had cached an old page, but this time I was accessing the site from another location.
My limited understanding of DNS is that it should resolved my domain name to the correct IP address, but in this case it did not.
What do I do? I already have the correct DNS values at my domain registrar. Is there any other way to make sure my DNS will point to the correct IP?
Regarding DNS problems.
No, all you have to do is ensure that you have the correct DNS settings specified for you domain. The registrar should have 2 DNS entries for your domain. The DNS server specified should hold the same information for your domain. This is generally nothing to worry about, as your DNS service is probably hosted at a company having theese 2 dns servers. If there is a problem I would guess that one of the DNS server specified does not contain the correct DNS information. Maybe a sync problem within you DNS service hosting provider?
.. Just a wild guess here…
Thanks. I tried to set the DNS entries at the domain registrar again to make sure I didn’t paste them incorrectly the first time. It looks like things are working better now. Maybe that was the problem.
